Thursday 10 September - Ceriana

Up super late this morning after a good lie-in and some reading. In fact Karen fell back asleep until after 11 o’clock. Must be all these late nights. Took our time going into town for our lunchtime bread and some top-up veges, and sat down at the café for a coffee, and later a wine. The latter came served with a bowl of crisps, a bowl of olives and a plate of tasty cheese. Fun sitting there watching the world go by.

Spent much of the afternoon catching up with the diary, and converting old diary into a blog with photos to make it more palatable for the younger set (Alastair mainly) who can’t read without pictures apparently!

Went down (basso basso according to the oldies from our piazza when we asked for directions) into the oldest part of town, 15th century apparently, to have drinks with Les & Helen whom we had met at Dario’s trattoria early on. They have a nice little place with a terrace looking east, but had to be out of it as it had been booked before they bought. They were staying in a friend’s place a couple of doors down. They have a Pommie neighbour who sounds appalling – they call her Hyacinth after a TV character who is always trying to be several classes higher. This woman insists all the English should stick together and is anti-Italian, we can’t work out why she is here at all. Les and Helen have plenty of Italian friends, they have even been gifted a tiny piece of land to grow olives on. They can get here by lunchtime from their home in Stroud. What an advantage.
